Up and Coming in July

I have slacked off in a lot of creative projects for the last year. I'm especially lagging in the word count arena. After so much surprise success in 2013 and the beginning of 2014, I eventually tripped into a perfectionist cycle and couldn't quite get unstuck. Not that I didn't have ideas, goals, or words, but I was too afraid to do anything about them, worried that I couldn't live up to my own or others expectations. At the same time, I couldn't reach the same high and sense of community that energized me back in 2013. To be fair, The buzz/high/rush that propelled me for most of that year may have had something to do with the sheer amount of caffeine I consumed between November 2012 and December 2013.

Still, my writing didn't feel the same and my production on any project was not impressive. In fact, after failing to complete NaNoWriMo 2013 + 2014, plus a couple of camp sessions, I was considering giving up on NaNoWriMo, and the word count goals it inspired, and focus more intently on revising my already complete novels. On the other hand, sustained revision wasn't going well either. I had to figure something out, to keep writing, reach my writing goals, and not suffocate under a mountain of unwritten stories.

That "something" turns out to be getting back into short stories, instead of launching a huge project every month, and forcing myself to write daily. My stroke of genius is to post a new short story everyday on this blog.  It's basic "2 birds-1 stone" situation. My blog needs constant content and I need to write new words while I'm revising old material. Plus Camp NaNoWriMo is coming up. So I guess it's three birds and one stone. But now I'm not sure which are the birds and what is the stone.

Anyway, in July expect to see a 1K-5K word short horror story everyday. I'm planning on posting no earlier than noon but definitely no later than midnight each day. I don't know if there will be any penalties for late posting or backdating, or rewards if I write more each day. If I'm ambitious enough, I might even throw in some artwork, music, or other kind of extra goodies with each short story. And there maybe a surprise on July 31st, but I don't know that either. Still,  I'm really looking forward to this project, going back to my horror roots, and putting up more numbers/production than ever.
